Surround Sound with Soloist Abel Selaocoe and members of Britten Sinfonia at Ely Cathedral

Surround Sound will bring a playlist of music from the 16th to the 21st century to all corners of Ely Cathedral for audiences of all ages to enjoy, from Handel and Mozart to Copland and Shostakovich.

Over an hour, you’ll hear a carefully sequenced series of shorter pieces from several performance spaces within the Cathedral. There will be choral and chamber music, solos, the cathedral organ, a 20-piece orchestra and the remarkable South African cellist/vocalist Abel Selaocoe. Each audience member’s experience of the event will be personal and influenced by where you sit. Not all performance areas will be visible to you: sometimes you won’t be able to work out where within the arches and chapels and galleries the music is echoing from.

Seating at this event will include chairs, but the majority of seating areas will be provided as mats for household groups on the floor – bring a cushion, blanket or even a folding chair and get comfortable to enjoy the music your way.
